The East Texas State University Chapter, The Eta Phi of Kappa Alpha Psi Celebrates its Charter Line

O n May 13, 2023, the Eta Phi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi, East Texas State University, (Texas A&M Commerce), affectionately known as, “The Hammer Chapter” celebrated a special milestone in its storied history, as brothers and guests convened at the Doubletree Inn Hotel, Dallas, Texas, to celebrate the chapter’s “Golden Anniversary” along with members of its Charter line, “The Minus 24 Degrees.” This line was initiated by Zeta Upsilon at North Texas State University (University of North Texas) on May 11, 1973. The event included a 50-year blazer presentation with 9 of the original 24 members replacing their crimson blazers with new Cream blazers signifying their now 50+ years in the Bond of Kappa. Eta Phi’s Polemarch, Kevin Shed (Eta Phi 2022) served as Master of Ceremonies for this grand event. Other chapter members participated in deliver- ing all ladies in attendance, red carna- tions in honor of Mother’s Day. The Speaker for this event was Michael Brundy (Beta Psi 1972). He is a former Polemarch of the Mansfield/ Cedar Hill (TX) Alumni Chapter). Also in attendance, Dr. Cephas Ar- chie (Epsilon Nu 2023), Vice President for Inclusion, Texas A&M Commerce. On February 1, 2025, the Eta Phi chapter will again reach a 50-year milestone. The chapter at that time will be celebrating the chartering of their chapter, “Eta Phi.”
