UPSILON CENTENNIAL OBSERVANCE

while Attorney and Music Manager Ron Sweeney, Esq. (Upsilon 1971), a past member of the Grand Board of Direc- tors, delivered the Keynote Address. UCLA Associate Athletic Director Dr. Kenny Donaldson and William “Bill” Ellis, Former Bruin Basketball Player and Past Advisor Emeritus to Upsilon provided remarks. The day’s activities continued with group photo event on the Jannss Steps Bruin Walk, and a reunion event. The day concluded with the Upsilon Cen- tennial Black & White Gala Dinner, with over 300 guests entertained with a reception, live entertainment band and LA’s top DJ. Dinner guests included the UCLA Alumni Association, National Panhellenic organizations and the gen- eral public. The Centennial Black & White Gala paid tribute to the active undergraduate members of the Upsilon Chapter, who were escorted by the ladies of the Royal Court of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and were introduced to the alumni and guests. The crowd was captured by the Upsilon Undergraduate presentation of the Royal Court, where the princess court was introduced and among them, a Kappa Queen was selected to serve as

president of the Royal Court for the next year. The tradition also accumulated with all the Kappa joining the under- graduates with their silhouettes and sweethearts with a final serenade of the Kappa Sweetheart Song. Other key social events during Upsilon Chapter’s Centennial Celebra- tion included Church Service at Faithful Central Bible Church, the Family Out- ing and BBQ on Sunday April 23, 2023, at the Sunset Recreation Center, and later that evening with a conclusion of laughs at Kappa Komedy Night at the Laugh Factory on Sunset Boulevard.

Dignitaries that spoke at the event were national spokesperson for Kappa League and Guide Right, actor/ producer John Marshall Jones, UCLA Executive Vice Chancellor & Provost Darnell Hunt, Bobby Grace, Chairman of the UCLA Black Alumni Association, Deputy Mayor Brian Williams spoke on behalf of Mayor Karen Bass and presented a special resolution.

Upsilon Centennial Marker

On Monday, April 24, 2023, the UCCC hosted the Upsilon Centennial Dedication Program that started with a Pre-Reception and Dedication Ceremo- ny Program in UCLA Ackerman Union Grand Ballroom. News media outlets channel 7, channel 5 and channel 11 were present to capture the historic un- veiling of the permanent marker located in front of Kerckhoff Hall. UCCC General Chairman Kinsey and Execu- tive Vice Chairman Harbour spoke to the media expressing the significance the occasion was to the Kappa Alpha Psi
