The Story of Kappa Alpha Psi is Integral to the US

TIMELINE: A LOOK BACK THROUGH THE KAPPA ALPHA PSI ® JOURNAL

...[W]e must mobilize our members to raise objections to programs, practices and statements that denigrate African Americans. We must become a force that requires policy makers at the local, state and na- tional levels to perceive us in the same manner as other organizations that are committed to an African American agenda. We must return to the mindset that prompted Kappa to become involved in--the historic Brown v. Board of Education case before the U.S. Supreme Court; the 1963 March on Washington; and the Poor People's Movement. These actions helped improve the quality of life for African Americans. it also led to the adoption of legislation to provide opportunities for the disadvantaged and the forgotten....We owe our ancestors a debt of gratitude for their efforts.

We must never forget that thousands of African Americans, including many Kappamen, died to furnish the freedoms we have today. We must honor their memory by making a better word for our sons and grandsons. Excerpts from "Back to Basics-The New Leadership!," Howard L. Tutman, Jr. Senior Grand Vice Polemarch, T he Kappa Alpha Psi Journal, October 1995, Vol. LXXXI, No. 3.
