Holder , the U.S. Supreme Court invalidates a portion of the 1965 Voting Rights Act. Trayvon Martin's killer is acquitted. — The Black Lives Matter movement is organized, advocating nonviolent civ- il disobedience in protest of police brutality against African Americans.

On July 5, Alton Sterling was shot by police offic- ers in Baton Rouge, LA, while selling CDs. The shooting was recorded. Protests ensued. — On July 6, Philando Cas- tille, was killed a by police in Minnesota during a traffic stop. Live stream- ing brought national no- toriety to his death. The officer was acquitted and the city of Saint Anthony paid a multimillion dollar wrongful death settlement. — On September 16, Ter- ence Crutcher, who was unarmed, was killed by a police officer in Tulsa, OK during a traffic stop. Protests follow.

Thomas L. Battles, Jr. becomes the 33 rd Grand Polemarch and served from 2015-2019. — On April 2, Eric Harris is shot in the back by a po- lice officer in Tulsa, OK. — On April 4, Walter Scott was shot and killed from behind in North Charles- ton, South Carolina by a police officer.
