Retreat Charts a Path Towards Success

L ast fall, members of the Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation Board of Directors participated in a two- day strategic planning retreat. The goal of the retreat was to create a plan of action that will empower the Foundation to become one of the most successful foundations operated by an NPHC organization in the coming years. In addition to a majority of the Board of Directors, attending the retreat were Grand Polemarch Reuben A. Shelton, III, and past Grand Polemarchs Thomas Battles, Randy Bates, Samuel Hamilton, and Robert Harris. Also in attendance were Brother John Jacobs, Brother Preston Byrd, Brother Frank Robinson, and Brother Thomas Moorehead, who attended virtually. During the first day of the retreat, Foundation President Michael J. Du- bose provided an overview of where the Foundation is today and its future growth

trajectory. Foundation Treasurer Martin L. Hubbard provided a financial outlook that included successful campaigns like the virtual Celebration of Achievement, the 40 for 40 Giving Campaign, and the 40 th Anniversary Oral History Project. A special component of the retreat was a signing ceremony where Brother Byrd, Brother Hubbard, and Brother Moorehead pledged funds to the Foundation. These funds, plus the endowment funds that are part of the Foundation’s scholarship program, will propel the Foundation and its reach to new levels of service. On the second day of the retreat, participants worked in focus groups fa- cilitated by Kevin Johnson of the Johnson Leadership Group. The workshops cen- tered on four areas: • Financial Partnerships and Invest- ment Strategies • Organizational Infrastructure
