CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah women's basketball team will usher in a new era with their 2025-2026 season-opener against the Park University Gilbert Buccaneers on Monday, Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the America First Event Center. Head Coach Tracy Mason Said: "Starting the year off with our season-opener at home is a great opportunity for us to get off on the right foot and set the tone for a competitive run. Our team plays with a lot of energy, and Monday will give us a good idea of how that will translate during games this season." In the matchup, Ava Uhrich dominated for Southern Utah, raining down 28 points and recording her first double-double of the season. The Thunderbirds Presenting a young roster with 10 underclassmen and seven new faces, Southern Utah looks to kick off a new generation of Thunderbirds basketball. In her eighth season, Coach Mason will look to take her revamped squad on a final lap of the Western Athletic Conference before moving to the Big Sky Conference. Prepared to open their exciting new campaign, the program will be led into battle by a strong group of 2025- 2026 captains. The group includes Uhrich, who enters her junior year as the team's active leader in career points scored, sophomore Sierra Chambers, whose development in the offseason has set her up to dazzle at the point guard position, and Brooklyn Fely, an impressively decorated junior recruit from Umpqua Community College. Scouting Report: Park University Gilbert Buccaneers Slotting into Southern Utah's schedule for the second straight season, the Buccaneers opened the season with a solid 2-0 start, defeating Nelson University once on the road and once at home. Averaging 15.5 points in her first two games, Hemani Kalia currently leads Park University Gilbert's offense. Defensively, Alynna Palacios leads the team with 10 steals.
