F or the past year at Marist, we’ve all been trying to navigate a “new normal,” while grieving everything we’ve lost—including the loss of a traditional college experience. As college students, already in a transitional and confusing point in our lives, COVID-19 threw us into a collective tailspin. It derailed our plans regardless of major or graduating class, and forced us to adapt. Grief takes time, and just as the pandemic has impacted everyone differently, the grief process looks different for everyone. But we are unified by the feeling of universal pain. Experts say there are five stages of grief: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance. In a way, these stages mirror the feelings, frustrations and burgeoning hope we’ve all experienced since March of 2020 ...
