POET’S CORNER ☆ ' ☆ m WHAT DID YOU GET FOR CHRISTMAS? The greatest earthly bliss: And I rejoice that I received What money cannot buy; A treasure richer far than gold, ’Twas sent me from the sky. What did I get for Christmas? Oh, yes, I’ll try to tell, But how can human lips describe The Gift unspeakable? That Gift exceeds all other gifts; They but reflect His love, But this great Gift eclipses all —• M y Saviour from above. WHAT DID YOU GIVE FOR CHRISTMAS? What did I give for Christmas? I’ll try and answer true; 1 gladly gave the best I had, The same, no doubt, as you. I gave remembrances to those Who in my memory live; M y largest gift was saved for One [<, om Whom I most receive. What did I give for Christmas? M y greatest gift was giv’n ☆ THE GREATEST GIFT The first great Christmas gift to men was hung upon a tree; It was not by a fireside, where only those could see Who near of kin of friendship were, and gifts exchanged would be; But out upon a mountainside for all the world to see. He gave His all, His life, His blood, that men redeemed might be. Then what can man give in exchange for love so boundless, free? The debt of sin, H e paid it all; nought in ourselves have we, Nothing to bring unto our King, Maker, Redeemer, He. Our hearts, if emptied of this world, filled with His love shall be; Our hands, if free from selfish toil, filled with His tasks shall be; Our sin-sick souls, if brought to Him, shall pure and cleansed be. What shall I render unto God for all His gifts to me? This only do: call on His Name, accept salvation free. What did 1 get for Christmas? I’m glad you asked me this. For what I got has brought me To Him who gave Himself for me, M y Saviour, Christ, from Heav’n. To Him I gave my life, my love, And all I have or know, For time and for eternity, M y gratitude to show. ☆ ☆
