997. 1968 Topps Milton Bradley Complete Set (76)

Produced in conjunction with Topps for the Milton Bradley “Win a Card” game, a hastily- created, poor-selling game released in early 1968, the Milton Bradley set consisted of 132 cards, including baseball, football, and Hot Rod issues from that year. The baseball set numbered 77 cards, taken from the first series (44 cards) and second series (33 cards) of that season’s issue, the card fronts and numbers identical to the Topps cards of that season. Though they often confuse even the most advanced collectors, the Milton Bradley cards can generally be differentiated from the regular Topps issue by the backs, with the game cards printed with a more yellow color in comparison with the gold backs of the standard-issue baseball cards. The often miscut Milton Bradley baseball cards can often be found with a thin strip of what at one edge, as the cards were positioned on the sheet next to the football and Hot Rod cards, both of which had white borders. The game was simple, and just involved spinning a dial

to “win” more cards than one’s opponent. As a result, many of the cards are typically found well-handled. They are much more scarce than their regular-issue counterparts, as the game did not sell well and was discontinued after the 1968 season. The majority of the graded cards are sharp and clean, the primary issues reducing the numerical grades related to centering or print registration, with light corner wear all around. An outstanding set, highlighted by a scarce rookie card of Nolan Ryan, produced in quantities far fewer than their corresponding Topps cousins. 77 cards total.
