One of most significant cards of Joe DiMaggio, featuring the future Hall of Fame legend as a rising star for San Francisco of the Pacific Coast League. All three DiMaggio brothers cut their teeth on the West Coast prior to joining MLB franchises, with Joe’s move to New York garnering anticipation from everyone in pinstripes. Joe went on to post accomplishments well beyond siblings Dom and Vince and reached Cooperstown in his first year of eligibility. Each card from this Zeenut set started with a coupon on its lower edge that kids could clip and ex- change for candy bonuses. No surprise that most of them took advantage! This “without coupon” single shows an otherwise balanced card, with this clear and unmistakable shot of fresh-faced Joe. The technical grade reflects “stock missing on back,” according to the grader notes supplied with the card. The missing stock appears in the form of thin lines of light chipping of the stock on the reverse, a result of having once been stored in an album with diagonal lines designed to adhere photos in place. Aesthetically, this is a very minor issue that does not impact the quality or eye appeal of the card in any significant way, and is not visible on the front at all. The quality of the card is otherwise remark- able, with a wonderful image, square corners, and only minor wear at the edges, easily boasting the eye appeal of an EX+ card. His “pre-rookie” (pre-Yankee) status makes this a prize card of the Yankee Clipper. Joe was pictured on Zeenut cards as both a batter and fielder, with just a few dozen total en- capsulated across all technical grades – despite the “authentic” designation here, this is undoubtedly one of the finest extant in terms of overall eye appeal. As clear an example of “buy the card, not the holder” as we have seen. MINIMUM BID: $20,000 7. 1933-36 Zeenut PCL Joe DiMaggio (HOF RC) – PSA FR 1.5
8. Gorgeous Signed 1953 Bowman Color #59 Mickey Mantle (HOF) PSA/DNA 8
Stunning case of a vintage autograph whose style, placement, and card elevate an already standout example to something special! Hall of Fame legend Mickey Mantle spent a great deal of his career talking with fans, attending public events, and otherwise giving back to those who bought tickets and cheered him on. This signature, a beautiful looping version with blue ballpoint, shows careful attention to each moment and reflects how he approached those chances to make a fan happier for having met him. Whether a planned event or opportunistic meeting, Mickey took his time, placing and centering his sig just right on that indigo sky. Few sets left such a great spot for players to take advantage of when pleasing a fan. The clean lines and beautiful color of the 1953 Bowman placed his mighty swing and boyish good looks ideally in the southwest in its frame for a signature along the top edge. Mantle’s own gaze leads you right to that great outcome, something the hero himself took clear advantage of. The card itself offers clean border lines and bright surfaces, looking every bit the part as a treasured keepsake from baseball’s Golden Era. Light surface marks reflect affection for its subject without overhandling. Top to bottom, a fine example of the ideal way to meet your heroes! Authenticated and encapsulated by PSA/DNA.
