14. 1922 E120 American Caramel PSA-Graded Complete Set (240)
The American Caramel Series of 120 (E120) remains one of the most attractive card issues of the era. Featuring clear photography, ornate border deisgns and team checklists on the back of each card, the set was issued with two different tints: tan cards for American League players and green for National League players. Photo albums were made available for young collectors to paste their cards into, so many of the cards are found with damage on the reverse, the result of removal from those albums. The cards are often found with condition flaws; of more than 5,000 examples graded by PSA, more than 40% have been graded at the GOOD level or lesser. Assembling a complete set has proven to be difficult, as the cards do not make themselves available frequently, and typically are not found in large groups, forcing set builders to assemble their sets one card at a time. Indeed, just one other complete set resides on the current PSA Set Registry, with only three other complete sets on the All-Time finest list. Presented here is a complete, PSA-graded set. Largely in collector grade, the cards remain attractive in their holders, mostly clean and with strong images for the grade. Corner and edge wear are the primary condition issues throughout, with some surface soiling and mild creasing or wrinkling here and there, consistent with the grades. PSA VG 3 (2 cards): Roush (HOF), Sothoron. PSA GOOD+ 2.5 (2 cards): Ehmke, Shawkey. PSA GOOD 2 (14 cards): Barbare, Calloway, Cole, Holke, Hornsby (HOF), Markle, Neale, Olson, Pennock (HOF), Phillips, Schang, Toney, Watson, Welch. PSA GOOD 2 (Q – 1 card): Hasty. PSA FR 1.5 (6 cards): Cobb (HOF), DeBerry, Falk, Jamieson, W. Johnson (HOF), Southworth (HOF).
