19. 1961 Fleer Basketball Complete Set (66)

Outstanding 1961 Fleer basketball set, one of the hobby’s most important postwar vintage issues, containing a number of key rookie cards and Hall of Famers, most notably the first card of Wilt Chamberlain. This collection was assembled decades ago by a longtime hobbyist, carefully stored ungraded in a vintage photo album with “photo corners” anchoring the cards in place. As one would expect, the primary condition issue here relates to centering, as the cards present extraordinarily well otherwise, though close examination can reveal light diagonal indentations at the corners, the result of many years of storage inside the album. We took the liberty of submitting 27 cards to PSA for grad- ing, with the results as follows: PSA NM-MT 8 (1 card): #9 Costello. PSA NM 7 (6 cards): #16 Greer (HOF RC), #18 Hagan (HOF), #21, #22 Jones (HOF RC), #23 Jones (HOF RC), #27. PSA EX-MT 6 (7 cards): #13, #26, #35 Ramsey (HOF), #39 Schayes (HOF), #45 Arizin IA (HOF), #47 Chamberlain IA (HOF RC), #55 Howell IA (HOF). PSA EX 5 (7 cards): #24, #38 Russell (HOF), #49 Cousy IA (HOF), #61 Robertson IA (HOF RC), #62 Russell IA (HOF), #63 Schayes IA (HOF), #66 West IA (HOF). PSA VG-EX 4 (6 cards): #8 Chamberlain (HOF RC), #10 Cousy (HOF), #19 Heinsohn (HOF), #25, #27 Rodgers (HOF RC), #46 Baylor IA (HOF). PSA VG 3 (2 cards): #43 West (HOF RC), #44 Wilkens (HOF RC). PSA GOOD+ 2.5 (1 card): #36 Rob- ertson (HOF RC). In addition, four cards were returned un- graded, not meeting PSA’s minimum size requirement. They are #3 Baylor (HOF RC), #4 Bellamy (HOF RC), #14 Gola (HOF), and #15.
