45. 1888 N173 Old Judge Cabinets #43-2 Dan Brouthers (HOF) – PSA GOOD 2 (MK)

47. 1888 N173 Old Judge Cabinets #149-4 Buck Ewing (HOF) – PSA PR 1

The only example of this pose of Hall of Famer Buck Ewing assessed by PSA, this is a stunning example, graded PR 1 by PSA due to pinholes at the top and bottom of the mount. Such flaws are common with oversized cards and cabinets from this era as they were often displayed on the walls of youngsters’ bedrooms or cigar stores. In the case of this example, the image quality is far stronger than is typical; outstanding contrast reveals strong detail in the image,

Attractive cabinet from the highly desirable N173 Old Judge issue, picturing the Hall of Fame first baseman in his “bat at ready” pose. Brouthers stands in full uniform set against the studio backdrop of a ballfield, his name and copyright etched into the photo negative itself. The image is clear with outstanding contrast; a few areas of foxing are visible in the image background but not impacting the image of Brouthers itself to any great degree. The mount remains in strong condition, the

Tremendous N173 cabinet photo of Hall of Fame pitcher Tim Keefe, boasting an outstanding image with strong contrast, among the finer we have encountered. The mount is clean, with a few areas of minor foxing here and there, nothing to speak of. Sadly, PSA does not provide grader notes on cards graded AUTHENTIC, the “altered” designation is unclear to us, as we detect no alteration. The grade could be the result of dark surface abrasions within the image area, but all are minor and unobtrusive. A very strong example of one of the more difficult Hall of Famers in the N173 issue. 48. 1888 N173 Old Judge Cabinets #251-3 Tim Keefe (HOF) – PSA A MINIMUM BID: $3,500 right down to wrinkles in the studio backdrop. N173 cabinets with sharp images are among the most beautiful photographic baseball cards ever issued; the photos bring these long-ago players to life in ways that just aren’t possible with traditional baseball cards. An outstanding piece. MINIMUM BID: $2,500

printing bold and dark. The MK qualifier assessed by PSA relates to the words “Hall of Fame” written in pencil on the reverse. Despite the technical grade, we feel confident that this is one of the finer examples extant; a very desirable cabinet from a widely sought- after issue. 46. 1888 N173 Old Judge Cabinets #78-2 John Clarkson (HOF) – Rare Dark Mount – PSA GOOD 2 MINIMUM BID: $3,500

Just the second example of this pose we have seen and freshly assessed by PSA, a beautiful and somewhat rare N173 pose of Hall of Famer John Clarkson (corresponding with pose #78-2) is made significantly more rare by the black mount. Such colored mounts are extremely rare; it is theorized that their production was exclusively limited to 1888 and represents just a fraction of the cabinets produced, the majority of which feature yellow mounts. This example has been graded GOOD 2

by PSA due to wear at the corners and foxing within the image area. The extreme rarity of the cabinet with the dark mount overshadows the technical grade; finding another example in a higher grade is unlikely. An outstanding 19th Century rarity.

MINIMUM BID: $3,500
