86. 1953 Topps #92 Mickey Mantle (HOF) – BVG EX 5
88. 1954 Wilson Franks Ted Williams (HOF) – PSA GOOD+ 2.5
Another spectacular original-owner example, from a collection of early 1950s Topps and Bowman cards featured in this auction. This is the key card in the set, and it truly is a stunner, graded EX 5 by Beckett, with wonderful centering and strong image quality. A tiny bit of chipping is evident along the bottom border in the red text box, centering ever so slightly to the left on the canvas. Corners and edges are strong for the grade, a fantastic specimen. MINIMUM BID: $1,500
Few 1954 Wilson Franks singles circulate in public auctions for any of its players, which makes the chance to add Hall of Fame legend Ted Williams a special opportunity at an all-time player. The layout of this prized card features the popular Red Sox slugger taking a mighty cut, a well-known image for Ted, set against a stark white background. The PSA GOOD+ 2.5 reflects its bright color, good registration, and moderate corner wear befitting the
technical grade. Its overall appeal remains particularly strong, as surfaces are clean and centered with an excellent simulated autograph and prominent pack of Wilson Franks. An exceptional card and one of the most important of all Ted Williams examples!
87. 1953 Topps #104 Yogi Berra (HOF) – BVG NM-MT 8
MINIMUM BID: $1,500
Perhaps the most thoughtful of all Yogi Berra cards, given his reputation for exuberance and excellent on-field play! This well- centered and pack-fresh portrait ranks among the best stars from a top postwar set, as many collectors feel this artful 1953 set exceeds the high bar Topps established with their 1952 “giant size” debut. The BVG NM-MT 8 score delivers everything you want from a high grade example, with bright color,
89. 1955 Bowman #202 Mickey Mantle (HOF) – PSA EX 5
Bowman turned America’s growing 1950s affection for televised baseball into this classic “wood grain and frame” set that fea- tures on-field poses with deep, nostalgic
color. The Mick signed an exclusive deal with Bowman for 1954-55 and his contract gave eager fans just one way to find him in gum packs, pushing the significance of his Bowman cards even higher. Card designers went the extra mile for this one, with details from his powerful forearms to a gaze fixed on hitting the long ball. Vin- tage fans treasure their Mantles like few others! This PSA EX 5 features a beautiful warmup pose of Mickey, finishing his powerful swing from the right side. Centering’s a bit northward and edges show modest edge chips typical of this set’s full-bleed wood borders. Two corners show a bit of rounding, while remaining intact and balanced overall. His back is well-printed and centered, telling the story of a rising star who already put fear into opposing pitching. A key card for 1955 that suits any lover of strong player images and fans of Mantle in particular!
even borders, and near-flawless surfaces. A strong example for any collection, let alone one that features such a close, distinctive look at Berra, tightly zoomed in as he finishes a swing. For all his popular quotations and eccentricities, Yogi’s hitting was so consistently great during the 1950s that each Yankee manager could start their year by writing him down for 25 homers and 100 RBIs before moving on to other players who actually needed help. A stunning card for someone so meaningful to baseball and his many, many fans!
