PCAOB Kennesaw State University nominated two exceptional students for academic scholarships from the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) for the 2023-2024 academic year. Jocelyn Galvan and Christopher Rodriguez were awarded scholarships in the amount of $10,000 each. CARR, RIGGS, & INGRAM CPAS AND ADVISORS COURSE NAMINGS In December 2022, Carr, Riggs, & Ingram CPAs and Advisors (CRI) committed to a major gift to name two business professionalism courses in the accounting program. The first, BUSA 3150: CRI Developing my Career Essentials is for second- and third-year accounting students. They explore talents and leadership skills needed to become more self-aware. This course identifies strengths and aligns them with the accounting career path. Students also work with a career coach on completing a resume and practice interviewing for professional positions. The second course, BUSA 4150: CRI Driving my Success is for third- and fourth-year students. They focus on applying professionalism in all aspects of their job search to prepare them for post-graduation success. Students focus on interview skills, business etiquette, elevator speeches, and building a personal brand. A focus on team building, critical and creative thinking, and negotiation skills help to refine their leadership styles. Students also meet with a career coach to review their progress and weigh their job offers to best align them for success.

HONORS BANQUET The SOA’s annual Honors Banquet in April recognizes students from our undergraduate and MAcc programs with merit-based scholarships. In 2023, the School of Accountancy presented more than 100 awards to students and gave more than $400,000 worth of scholarships and assistantships. Donors, students, and faculty networked and celebrated the accomplishments of awarded students. Students also connected with donors by engaging in team activities in addition to a banquet luncheon. Luis Reyes, Partner and Southeast Regional Market Leader at Cherry Bekaert, an alumnus of KSU and a School of Accountancy Advisory Board member, was the keynote speaker. He spoke on the journey to success in the accounting profession.
