October for testing and screening, so call now to reserve your spot for testing at 800-789-9061.) In 2015, the cost of caring for Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia was $226 billion, and it is expected to cross the $1 trillion mark by 2050. The average monthly cost of skilled Alzheimer’s and dementia care is $9,000 per month . Part of our new equipment acquisition is a qEEG to perform in- depth brain maps and assessments to help those with Alzheimer’s, dementia, head trauma, concussions, ADHD, strokes, PTSD, and traumatic brain injuries (TBI). According to the CDC, TBI is a leading cause of death and disability in the United States. Your brain runs your whole life, and any glitches in it can have lasting effects. Drugs only suppress the problem. From treating sick brains to enhancing peak performance in healthy brains, we are here to help. Our staff recently completed 230 hours of classroom training, including 50 hours with world-renowned Dr. Daniel Amen, whom you’ve probably seen on PBS specials.

Hello! Welcome to this month’s informative newsletter. Let’s begin by talking about a few statistics. First , pain affects more people than diabetes, cancer, and heart disease combined ! Although modern medicine is the best it’s ever been at treating acute trauma, by its own admission, it has a dismal track record when it comes to chronic pain. The best solution has been opioids, which don’t even attempt to get to the root of the chronic pain and have ruined countless lives in the process. Our staff receives continuing education from all corners of the globe and from a variety of medical and natural healing experts, sparing no expense in incorporating new equipment and techniques that are proven to have the highest rate of success in addressing health conditions at their underlying cause. With these resources, we have often been able to help many individuals recover, even after multiple other treatment methods had failed to provide them relief. Second , 5.8 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. This condition is so incredibly serious, and many lives are affected by it on a daily basis. Modern medicine states “that out of the top 10 causes of death in America, Alzheimer’s is the only condition which cannot be slowed down, prevented, or cured,” until now. Did you know that UCLA reversed 9 out of 9 cases of Alzheimer’s recently? Of course you didn’t, because they didn’t do it with drugs (because there isn’t one). They did it through nutrition, lifestyle, mind/ body exercises, brain wave training, etc. For people over 55, 1 in 3 suffer from Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, and it kills more people than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined. In the U.S., it is the sixth leading cause of death. Between 2000 and 2007, deaths from heart disease decreased by 9%, while deaths from Alzheimer’s increased by 145%. Of those who have died, two thirds are women. In the U.S. alone, someone develops Alzheimer’s every 65 seconds! With all these statistics, scientists are now calling Alzheimer’s Type 3 diabetes. However, along with Type 2 diabetes, it is reversible. (Ask us how at 800-691-8845.) Early warning signs of Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia can be detected over 25 years before major signs or symptoms become obvious. (We are booked through the beginning of

HERE’S WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU HAVE A QEEG. We use state-of-the-art qEEG equipment, computers, and software. Having a qEEG is a simple, painless process that takes a total of about 30 minutes. In a room at our clinic, you’ll sit quietly while a cap is gently placed on your head. The cap looks

similar to a bathing cap, except that it has electrodes attached that pick up the brain’s electrical activity. The electrodes on your scalp are connected to a device that captures the signals from the brain. That device is then wired to a computer that will read and interpret the signals the electrodes receive.

THE QEEG IS A 2-PART PROCESS:

1. The electrodes will record your brain activity while you sit quietly for 5–8 minutes with your eyes open. 2. The electrodes will record your brain activity for an additional 5–8 minutes while your eyes are closed, recording neural electrical activity. The computer monitor will show colored patterns — or maps — of your brain. With this information, we

A NATURAL WAY TO STIMULATE HEALING AND REDUCE PAIN THE SCOOP ON PEMF THERAPY

between a horse living or having to be put down, so it’s no wonder vets sought innovative ways to treat breaks. Eventually, the FDA approved PEMF therapy for the treatment of fractures in humans, as well as for depression, post-surgical pain, chronic pain, and more. Rather than masking pain through the use of addictive, opioid- based drugs, PEMF attacks the root cause of pain. The problem with a medication-based approach to treating pain is that it is only treating the symptoms. When you stop taking the meds, you stop experiencing relief. And as many pockets of the country are currently learning firsthand, the meds themselves come with serious, unwanted side effects. Stop trying to put a Band-Aid on your pain and start treating it from inside your body. Call Pain Relief & Wellness Strategies Center today to find out in two free sessions if PEMF therapy is right for you.

Our bodies are made up of trillions of cells. The health of these cells adds up to your overall wellness, meaning that one of the best ways to treat pain is on a cellular level. Chronic pain is the result of our central nervous system telling us something’s wrong. When our cells and nerves are healthy, they don’t send distress signals to the brain. Stimulating cells through pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy is one of the techniques we use to treat pain at its source. PEMF therapy is an FDA-cleared method for treating all sorts of ailments. It uses specific frequencies of waves to stimulate cells and expedite the healing process. It can reduce inflammation and increase blood flow and nerve function. Unlike X-rays, the frequencies used for PEMF cause no harm. When cells that have become distressed through illness or injury are restored through PEMF treatment, they function more efficiently. Attacking pain in this way, at its deepest level, is the key to lasting results. Before it was approved for use on humans, PEMF therapy was commonly used to treat racehorses with broken legs. Proper healing of a fracture is often the difference

are able to evaluate your brain wave patterns and detect any imbalances that may be contributing to your symptoms. This can help us create a personalized protocol to help balance your brain and minimize your symptoms.

IS QEEG SAFE?

VERY HIGH THETA IN A DEMENTIA PATIENT:

qEEG is noninvasive, painless, and safe to use. The electrodes in the cap that are placed on the scalp are like a “read only” program that receives signals from the brain. The electrodes do not alter brain activity in any way; they simply reveal areas where brain wave activity is healthy, underactive, or overactive.

EXAMPLES OF QEEG

In the following examples, no color represents normal limits. The deeper the green color, the higher the activity in each band.

PERFECT PAIRINGS INGREDIENTS FOR BETTER BODY BALANCE We seek balance through many methods, like morning yoga poses and guided meditations before bed. But another important part of a balanced, holistic lifestyle is diet. When your body is missing nutrients, you suffer from all kinds of physical and mental ailments. Based on a holistic nutrition perspective, here are some foods you can pair together to promote better body balance from the inside out. CITRUS FRUITS AND DARK, LEAFY GREENS The vitamin C in citrus fruits helps your body absorb the iron in kale, spinach, and other leafy greens. Unlike the iron found in animal proteins, the iron in leafy vegetables isn’t as easy to absorb. Get the most out of those greens by tossing your spinach salad with a lemon vinaigrette or brush some lemon or orange juice onto your grilled kale. BEANS AND RICE This simple staple meal for many Latin American families is prevalent for a reason. Together, beans and rice make a nutritious and protein-packed meal to fuel your body. Keep this dish interesting by creating new combinations with avocado, zesty sauces, cilantro, and radishes. Peas and quinoa is another pairing that completes the essential amino acid profile, and the two work well together in a salad or scramble. CHERRIES AND SPIRULINA You may not always think about your blood health, but you should because your blood distributes crucial nutrients throughout your body and floods toxins out. Iron, folic acid, vitamin B-12, and protein are the building blocks for better blood. You can find these nutrients in dark red foods, such as cherries, raspberries, beets, and kidney beans, and in dark green foods, like spinach, spirulina, and wheatgrass. Holistic nutritionist Sarah Britton, author of “My New Roots: Inspired Plant-Based Recipes,” suggests starting the day with a refreshing smoothie made with some of these foods. These ingredient combinations bring out the best in each other, so your body can function at its best. Pair them together and enjoy!

WHAT’S IN A NAME? THE FASCINATING ORIGIN OF LOCAL PLACE NAMES

We often wonder about the secret meanings behind the name of a business or work of art. But what about the names of the places where we live? While we may take them as a given without a second thought, place names often have fascinating stories that reveal something about the location’s history. Let’s take a look at the origins of the names of significant places in and around our practice.

YOUNGSTOWN, OHIO Youngstown has a relatively

of William Pitt, the Earl of Chatham. Most historians attribute the unique spelling of Pittsburgh to General John Forbes, the man who first wrote of the new name. Forbes, being Scottish, was used to the -burgh suffix for places (think Edinburgh). This variant is uncommon in America, which is why Pittsburgh is a frequent victim of misspellings.

straightforward naming process, one that’s a matter of simple addition. The

township was founded in 1797 by John Young. Opting for the easiest approach, he simply amended the word town to his name. Young purchased over 15,000 acres of land at roughly $1 per acre — imagine getting those prices today — and families quickly moved to the area. By 1802, the town was incorporated, making the name official.

GROVE CITY, PENNSYLVANIA Any guesses as to which type of grove Grove City is named for? If you said “pine,” you’re right. In fact, Grove City was known as Pine Grove for the early parts of its existence. Only after the area petitioned to be an official borough within Mercer County did it have to change its name, because another Pine Grove already existed in Pennsylvania.

PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA Before it was an American city or even a British one, Pittsburgh was controlled by the French and called Fort Duquesne. When the British gained control of the territory as a result of the French and Indian War, they renamed it in honor
