always wanted to get some land and do more of that,” Robertson tells us. His father built a family cottage along the Merigomish Harbour, where they spent about 40 years visiting before they realized what was along the shoreline. “There are a ton of fossils there,” Robertson explained. The fossils date back over 330 million years. Meanwhile, just down the road in Arisaig there have been fossils discovered that are over 400 million years old. “We didn’t realize we were sitting on a ton of them here,” he said.

Dean Robertson was born and raised in Nova Scotia. He is an Industrial Engineer with twenty-five years of experience working for the Shaw Group. Ten of which, he has been President and CEO. He is also co-owner of the beautiful Fossil Farms Oceanside Retreat alongside his brother, Doug Robertson. “If it wasn’t for him, there would be nothing here,” Dean Robertson proclaims. The brothers put in a great deal of work to build Fossil Farms from the ground up. Dean Robertson contributes mostly on the weekends, vacation time, and any chance he can, while his brother Doug is almost always on site. Although Dean gives a lot of credit for the business coming together to his brother, they did most of the planning and building together, with the help of a few contractors along the way. Dean Robertson remembers his parents donated food to local shelters and food banks while he was growing up. The food was grown right on their property. “We
