Doug purchased the property. The first thing they did was plant 7 acres of vineyard. “We had to prepare the land the first year. There was a lot of expense and work to get the land ready for the vineyard,” Robertson said. “Our original plan was to keep the campground and then that evolved,” he continued. They had seasonal cottage rentals and spaces for campers, as they were not quite ready for people to come and go. That’s where it all started. The Robertson brothers purchased prestige cottage modulesandstartedthebusinessFossilFarmsOceanside Retreat. Today, Fossil Farms cottages can comfortably accommodate 26 people. There are different styles of accommodations on the property including cottages and guestrooms. Each accommodation feels like home with its amenities including a full kitchen, full bath, living room with a smart TV, and a deck. The units vary in size from 200 square feet to 1200 square feet. The various sizes in rentals can give visitors a sense of different living arrangements. Especially if they are looking for their own future housing, to host foreign workers on their farms or possibly looking for solutions to the current housing crisis. Fossil Farms has solar panels to generate electricity for all accommodations and their event barn. “We want to be socially responsible for reducing carbon emissions. We are trying to be as green as we can,” Robertson explained.
