Asahi Photoproducts, a flexographic photopoly- mer plate developer, has partnered with Hamillroad Software to implement Bellissima DMS (digitally modulated screening) ultra-high definition flexog- raphic screening technology with its AWP Clean- Print water wash flexographic plates. “Companies increasingly recognize the need to reduce emissions that occur in their upstream or downstream value chain—and these are sometimes referred to as Scope 3 emissions, as defined in the Greenhouse Gas Protocol,” according to McKinsey & Company. Expanded Color Gamut Dieter Niederstadt, Asahi’s Director of Technical Marketing, points out that this implementation also improves the ability of flexo operations to deliver high quality Expanded Color Gamut (ECG) print- ing, also referred to as Fixed Color Palette Printing, which uses a standardized ink set enhancing the ability to reproduce any color. All Asahi AWPTM CleanPrint plates are water washable. The AWPTM-DEW plates are already certified Carbon Neutral in collaboration with the Carbon Trust and the AWPTM-CleanFlat plates are currently in the final stages of the Carbon Neutral approval program. UPM Raflatac Receives LCA Validation From DEKRA UPM Raflatac has received a new certificate of va- lidity from international assurance service provider, DEKRA, for its Label Life service. This new certificate confers validity to the LCA calculation engine and the whole process of gener- ating LCAs at scale. With the EU in the process of developing a ‘digital product passport’ (DPP) that will be issued for all products on the market, UPM Raflatac decided to be a step ahead of the legislative requirements. The company has designed its product passport proto- type (PPP), an environmental declaration, based on existing standards and norms. Generated by the newly validated Label Life ser- vice, the product passport prototype enables UPM Raflatac’s customers and brands to communicate their labeling’s potential environmental impact. It includes a wide range of metrics that are broken down into life cycle stages: cradle-to-gate, trans- port-to-customer, printing, and end of life.
