Dr Antonio Pooe: Discovering NEW LIFE in Digital Forensics

Dr Antonio Pooe fell head over heels for the mysterious world of digital forensics, information security and data science. After that, his life was never the same again. “As a leader in business, a lot of what I do impacts those that I lead, mentor or coach. It is about ensuring that in my own journey, I fulfil my leadership mandate to my team at work, to my business partners and to the community in helping them to become what they are working towards.” To lead changes the picture from a focus on yourself to carrying the responsibility to help others become leaders, he stresses. Antonio is particularly passionate about young graduates and has spent the past 12 years dedicated to identifying youth potential, giving them internships, training them, providing work opportunities. “Industry is very harsh. Young people today are expected to have a degree, a car, experience – all at the same time. And so, internship opportunities need to be created where young graduates have at least six months to a year so that when they do go out into the real world, they can say: I’ve got one year experience and this was my mentor and this is what I did. That is what I’ve been involved in over

Dr Antonio Pooe. Technology always held a deep fascination for him.

Clearly successful, for him, the measurement of success has proven to be an evolving concept. “At first, success was about me, what I’ve achieved and so forth. Since I’ve added a few grey hairs to my head, success is turning out to be about the extent to which I’ve helped others achieve their purpose and goals. “I want to be remembered for the positive changes I’ve made in people’s lives, for helping to create and/or open career opportunities for the leaders of tomorrow, for breaking barriers and being an inspiration to those that are yet to be.

Antonio Pooe, Director and Head: Forensic Services & Technology, Media and Telecom (TMT) industry leader at SNG Grant Thornton, has always been deeply fascinated with technology. He has a wealth of experience in forensic investigations, fraud prevention and information security. His experience includes working with law enforcement, attorneys and corporations locally and internationally in the fight against white collar crime. He is also the chair of the Grant Thornton Africa Forensic Forum and a Nominations Committee member at SNG Grant Thornton.
