PROJECT PROFILE
POMEROY FORESTRY BUILDING & VISITOR CENTRE
BELL CONTRACTS DELIVERS A BUILDING AS SUSTAINABLE AS IT IS BEAUTIFUL, WITH ITS NATURAL LARCH CLADDING SYSTEM BLENDING HARMONIOUSLY WITH THE SURROUNDING FOREST… ENHANCING THE VISITOR EXPERIENCE
Successful integration of traditional and modern design elements has been among the most satisfying aspects for Bell Contracts in delivering the new Pomeroy Forestry Building. The main contractor is also particularly proud of the building’s natural larch cladding system, completed by its own in-house team. Creating a durable and weather-resistant exterior, it blends harmoniously with the surrounding forest environment. Bell Contracts was awarded a tender to construct the new multi- million-pound visitor centre following a competitive two-stage process, with works commencing in January 2023 and completing in May 2024. Serving as a hub for the local community and tourists, the new building comprises a large, multi-use space with retractable seating for 150 people, two multi-purpose rooms, a kitchen, cafe with seating, toilets and changing facilities. The project also included associated site works and the development of a new car park to accommodate an anticipated increase in visitor traffic. Close collaboration with a supportive client and skilled design team allowed
the contractor to navigate any obstacles emerging throughout the build. Colm Bell, Managing Director, said, “Through effective teamwork and open communication, we all successfully addressed the challenges, ultimately delivering the finished building that stands today.” The exterior design of the building incorporates larch and zinc cladding, ensuring the structure seamlessly blends into its natural backdrop. Niall Bell, Contracts Manager, said, “The use of natural larch cladding underscored the project’s commitment to sustainability and respect for the natural landscape, creating a visually-appealing and environmentally- conscious structure. “The project uniquely blended time- honoured construction techniques with contemporary building methods, resulting in a finished structure that is both aesthetically pleasing and functionally robust. “It stands out in Bell Contracts’ portfolio because it exemplifies our ability to balance respect for traditional craftsmanship with the demands of modern construction, delivering a building that is as sustainable as it is beautiful.
“This development represents a significant investment in the local area, promising to enhance the visitor experience and support the conservation and enjoyment of the forest environment.” A multi-disciplined construction company, Bell Contracts & Co Ltd has steadily grown and diversified since it was founded in 1982. With a head office in Cookstown and offices in Belfast, Dublin and Scotland, it delivers high-quality construction solutions and concrete repairs across sectors including commercial, community, education, health, housing and aviation.
