LIGHTHOUSE CHARITY PROVIDES AN UPDATE ON NEWS, EVENTS AND SUPPORT OFFERED IN NORTHERN IRELAND… Providing emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support to the construction community
The Lighthouse Charity is the only charity providing emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support to the construction
community and their families. A revival of the Northern Ireland
committee of the Lighthouse Charity in 2023 saw new volunteers joining, including Chair David Hughes (Pure Fitout), Vice Chair Brendan Crealey (Industry Training Services) and Secretary Michaela Courtney (Danu Digital). Paula Gibney from Pure Engineering has recently joined as Treasurer. Brian Shanks is the new Lighthouse Regional Ambassador for NI and will be spearheading the charity’s Company Supporter initiative and spreading the word about the huge number of support services the charity provides. The charity offers a free and confidential 24/7 helpline, live web chat service and text service, all of which provide a range of guidance and support on a variety of wellbeing issues. These services are complemented by the free self-support app, along with Lighthouse Beacons, providing a safe space for people to share concerns. In the past year, representatives from key local bodies and organisations within the sector have joined the committee and many local construction companies have signed up as company supporters. has visited sites and contractor premises across the province. The distinctive #MakeItVisible vehicle, dedicated to touring Ireland north and south, has seen the team reaching out to the trades to raise awareness of the support available to the construction community. The team delivers an informal and engaging ‘team talk’, shares their own life experiences and focuses on the importance of positive mental health and wellbeing.
