he slept on, not even hearing the sound of sharp teeth, gnawing, gnawing all the time. Then Biffy had a terrible dream. Once his father had told him about the big, bad crocodile who lived in the large rivers and oceans far, far away. “We can be thankful,” his father had said, “that there are no enemies like that in our quiet swamps and pools.” But this terrible crocodile was right here in Biffy’s dream. In fact, he was right under him, and Biffy was being carried on his back to be eaten when the crocodile was hun gry enough. Poor little Biffy! He knew right then he should have been working with his family where he would be safe. The croco dile swam on and on and suddenly with a frightened cry, Biffy fell right off his back! He was in the cold, cold water and he couldn’t get his breath for a minute. Then he heard his mother’s voice, “Why, Biffy, what were you doing in our old lodge?” she asked. Biffy dared to open his eyes and found he was in his own pond. There was no crocodile at all. It was only a had dream. The entire floor of the old lodge had collapsed in the water when the sides were tom down. “You could have been smoth ered,” scolded his father. “Why aren’t you busy doing your part of the work?” Suddenly a bright red glow fell over everything. It was morning and he had slept all through the Club and have been sent the club pin and song. night. The big shining sun was showing its head over the horizon. “Underwater everybody!” shout ed the father and all the beavers Submerged, but not before they had grasped something from the old lodge in their front paws. Biffy took a big branch of a willow tree but it was too big and he finally reached the new lodge emptyhanded. A good beginning had been made on both the new lodge and the new dam. Everybody was very happy for the change except Biffy. His fa ther and mother and brothers and sisters could say, “I fixed this!,” “I brought this!,” “This was my work!” But not Biffy! All he could think about was a bad dream and an old crocodile. He resolved right then and there never, never to be that unheard-of creature again — a lazy beaver! Boys and girls, the Lord does not want us to be lazy either. The Bible is full of verses about “working,” “working together,” “serving.” Let us then do our share with a happy heart and willing hands. It will make life happier for us and for our mothers and fathers if we do our little chores around the house, such as setting the table, going to the store, washing the dishes and keeping our rooms tidy, without complaining. If we work together, we can have that happy feeling that we had a share in making our homes pleasant places to live in. And we will please the Saviour who loved us and gave Himself for us. END.
