wrong. He lives to please the Lord who bought him, and cannot grieve the Saviour by inconsistent living (2 Cor. 5 :9). The truly righteous man would rather be poor and honest than rich and a thief. The fact remains, however, that in most instances the man who is fair with God in his business and in matters of money prospers more than the man who robs from God His share.

against infinite love and absolute holi ness. Such a sin as this deserves eternal punishment. Justice demands that sin be adequately punished. The demands of justice were fully met by Jesus Christ, God’s Son, when He died in the sinner’s place (Rom. 3:21-31; 2 Cor. 5:21; 1 Pe ter 2:24). Salvation is “ something for nothing” because God will be debtor to no man. It would be decidedly incongruous for the eternal God to be in debt to sinful man! God is no man’s debtor. Whatever God gives, He gives freely (Titus 3:5). God Forbids the “ Something for Nothing” Attitude Because Such In the Christian experience this is so in regard to personal responsibility. Al though there is nothing at all for a man to pay in order to be saved, there are responsibilities because he is saved. A Christian may steal God’s time (Eph. 5:15, 16). Each day is a loan from God. The Christian is responsible to so live that day as to bring glory and honor to the Lord. Are you stealing time from God? The believer may steal money from God (Mai. 3:8-10). Surely at least a tenth of the believer’s money belongs to the Lord. If under the law the tenth was required it seems reasonable that a tenth or more should be the logical proportion for the Christian to give back to God. The Almighty has limited Himself to the generosity of His people. Is your money at work for Christ? In business it is possible for the “ some thing for nothing” spirit to make a rob ber out of a man. Leviticus 19:11, 13 refers to stealing wages. How many em ployers today are guilty of this act of robbery? Because of the desire to in crease profits unlawfully, business has played into the hands of Communism. The Communist poses as the friend of the laboring man and points an accusing finger at capital. Many of his accusa tions, unfortunately, are well founded. The fault, however, is not with the sys tem but with the abuse of the system. History will undoubtedly show that the free-enterprise system that has made America great is the best system for a free world. Employees, too, may become smitten by the “ something for nothing” complex. The worker is to give a full day’s work for a full day’s pay. He is to be conscien tious about his work and fair in all his dealings with his employer. The Real Cure of the “ Somethin? for Nothing” Disease is Love of the Right Prov. 16:8 The righteous man (and only a true Christian is really righteous, both in the sight of God and actually in exper ience) is content with little, if that be God’s will. He knows that “better is a little with righteousness than great rev enues without right.” The Christian man would not stoop to steal because he knows that stealing is M A Y , 1 9 5 2 Leads to Theft Lev 19:11, 13

Who of us has not seen this sign at some time in his life? And we respect it. What lawn would grow if trampled un der a steady march of feet? The thought of the lesson, then, is this—there are legitimate prohibitions which every man does well to regard. Do Not Trample on the Moral Law of God The tendency is for man to take the law of God lightly. He does this because he does not understand it. Even Saul, the learned Pharisee, did not recognize the true purpose of the law until the Spirit of God opened his eyes. Before this ex perience he felt that he was righteous according to the law. He did nob suppose that he was guilty of breaking any of the commandments. But when he saw himself as God saw him, he saw also the true character of the law. Then it was he recognized how far short he came. Study Romans 7:7-14 in this connection. The self-righteous man is guilty of trampling on the holy moral law of God. It is possible for a man to keep the law outwardly according to the letter and at the same time to violate every holy commandment according to the spirit. See our Lord’s interpretation of the law in this very connection (Matt. 5:17-48). Don’t Trample on the Lord Jesus Christ Heb. 10:29 This is the greatest sin of. all sins (John 3:18). The world is full of men who call themselves good men but who have never confessed Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord. How can a man be a good man who refuses to believe the record of God concerning His own Son, and who refuses to accept the Son Himself, and this in the face of indisputable evidence? Rejecting Jesus Christ is the most common sin of all sin. There are many who would deny in shocked amazement any suggestion that they might be cruci fying afresh the Son of God. These people would be quick to confess that they be lieve in the fact of Christ. They believe that He was the Son of God. They believe that He arose again from the dead, that He ascended into Heaven, and that He is one day coming back. They confess to all these truths as doctrines of the Christian system, but they have never let the Christ come into their own lives as personal Saviour ahd Lord.
