have learned it from the Egyptians. At any rate, it was too deep-seated to be abolished at once. Divorce is against the will of God. It is foreign to the ideal He had established in the beginning (Gen. 2:24). Due to the hardness of human hearts, He regulated it at the time of Moses (Deut. 24). It is well to note that there is a distinct difference between the directive and the permis sive will of God. In the beginning His directive will was revealed in which there was no provision for divorce. The ideal in the marriage relation was es tablished. Later on after sin had brought its evil results, God’s permis sive will was expressed in His allow ance of divorce under restricted condi tions. For today, Christ has made it clear that there is only one cause per mitting divorce, namely, adultery (Matt. 19:9). All other grounds are man-made and minister to the breakdown of the home. Helps for the Children Clean Thinking and Clean Living Ex. 20:14; Matt. 5:8,13-16; Mark 10:2-12; Luke 2:40 Memory Verse: “Thou shalt not com mit adultery” (Ex. 20:14). One day when the Lord Jesus, God’s Son, was teaching a large crowd of peo ple, He said, “ Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” Perhaps some of the boys and girls asked their parents what the Saviour had meant when He spoke these words. They knew about the rules of health that would cause their bodies to be strong and clean. Now they were learning that clean hearts and pure thoughts were important if they were to be their very best in life. God’s Word tells us that the Lord Jesus grew and was strong in spirit and filled with wisdom. God had taught His Son, the sinless One, that thoughts as well as bodies must be clean and pure in His sight. Because the Lord Jesus had no sin in His life, He increased in favor with God and those about Him. Unclean thinking and talking and living keep us from being a blessing to others and from being pleasing in God’s sight. The Lord Jesus reminded His followers that they were the light of the world. Others were watching their lives to see how Chris tians lived and how they thought. A light that is hidden does no good. Those who call themselves children of God and yet tell filthy stories, have unclean thoughts, do unclean things, and dis honor God cause others to hate Chris tians rather than causing others to want to know the Son of God as their Saviour from sin. Some boys and girls tell “ dirty” jokes when they are with their friends, but they are very careful of their language when their Sunday school teacher or; their pastor or their parents are listening. Some children
