vation comes not through man’s love to God but through God’s love to man (John 3:16). Man can only love “ as I have loved you” when he already has Heaven in his soul and is born from above. When a person is saved and is a partaker of the divine nature, he is bound to express that nature to others whom he contacts. Christ desires His joy to be expe rienced by all of His followers. A sure way to have this joy is to be obedient to His commandments as expressed in His Word. One of the most important commandments of our Lord is that we love one another (v. 12). Obeying this command shows that we are His friends (v. 14) and produces a joyous expe rience. For several weeks we have been studying the commandments or rules for living that God has given in His Word. One day a man asked the Lord Jesus Christ which was the greatest or most important of all the commandments. The Saviour replied: “ Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength.” Again the Saviour said, “ By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” How much are we to love one another? “ Love one another as I have loved you.” The Lord Jesus’ love for you is so great that He loves you even when you sin? Do you love others when they do something that you do not think is right? The Lord Jesus loves us when we grieve Him. Do you love those who do things that make you unhappy? Those who do not love God and His Son with all their hearts cannot truly love others! Some people say, “ Well, I just can’t love that person!” Perhaps you will not love some of the things that others do, but you can love them because the Lord Jesus loved them just as much as He loved you. He loved them enough to die for them. The Saviour said, “ Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” The Saviour gave His life upon Calvary’s Cross for us when we were His enemies! No one has ever loved more than that! If there is someone that you do not love, if you refuse to speak to them, or cross to the other side of the street so that you won’t have to be near them, pray that you will love the Lord Jesus with all your heart so that His love may cause you to love others even as He has loved you. A Radiant Joy John 15:10-14 Helps for the Children Jesus’ Rule of Love Mark 12:28-34; John 13:34,35; 15:10-14 Memory Verse: “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one an other; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another” (John 13:34).
