LIFT YOUR HANDS UP HIGH
AND CELEBRATE GLOBAL BELLY LAUGH DAY THIS YEAR!
For the past two or three months, I noticed something interesting as I conducted a mental inventory of myself and my days. I found that I wasn’t laughing much, and instead, I went about my time with a more serious attitude. But with Global Belly Laugh Day on Jan. 24, I started to think about the significance of taking time to laugh and, more importantly, enjoying the simple moments we receive with a childlike wonder. The thought of genuine belly laughter always brings me back to a trip my family took when I was 10 years old. My parents wanted to take a big European family vacation together and decided we would visit London for two weeks, then head to Ireland for two weeks. My mom had some family in Ireland at the time, so it seemed like a great opportunity to travel abroad and visit people we didn’t see often. But during the London leg of our trip, I vividly remember being at the River Thames with my two younger sisters. At the time, we loved to play this silly game where we would reach our arms over our heads, as high as we could towards the sky, and tickle each others’ armpits. The goal was to see who could hold their hands up the longest while being tickle-tortured. Even today, this memory always brings a smile to my face, and sometimes I still can’t help but laugh when I think about it. The
idea of my sisters and I uncontrollably laughing as we did something so simple, like tickling each other, helped remind me to be more open to laughing at the smaller, “sillier” moments we have in life. As I said, I’ve been a bit more serious as work has gotten busier, and I think many people probably feel the same way at their jobs, too. And while sometimes it’s necessary to put our heads down and get work done, this can lead many people to obsess over the small things they can’t let go of. But the thing is that we need laughter to help us move past those small things we can’t control. In fact, I’d argue laughter is the antidote to that heavy gray cloud that hangs over us when all we think about is work.
back then, with only the presence of one another, my family and I were laughing nonstop all weekend.
When I walked into the office on Monday morning, I felt relaxed, joyful, and ready to take on my day. That gray cloud of worry and seriousness had lifted, and I was viewing my world through a brighter lens. Now, when I conduct my inventory, I give myself a score on a scale of 1–10 of how much I laughed that day. When I’m stuck in a serious rut, I take time to observe my children, learn from their ability to cut through all of the minutiae, and find laughter in even the smallest moments. So this month, in honor of Global Belly Laugh Day, I implore you to remember those moments of true joy and laughter before asking yourself, “What’s something now that would give me a much-needed belly laugh?” It doesn’t have to be something big and expensive like Disney World or a comedy club, but try to open yourself up to those armpit-tickling moments you have in your life today.
Just last weekend, I saw this antidote work in real time.
My wife and I took our kids to the park and spent some time playing catch and kicking a soccer ball; we even rode the merry-go-round. My kids had a blast, and I found myself laughing often and enjoying the simple moments of running in the park or riding an eccentric animal on the carousel. We even stopped at the sports store after we left and bought more soccer balls, footballs, and bouncy balls to continue playing at home. I was completely immersed in this weekend, filled with my family’s laughter, and I can’t help but think back to the armpit tickling at River Thames. Just like

GAVIN AND THE BEAN GARDEN GAVIN’S GUYS With ‘The Quantum Leap Strategy’ by Price Pritchett BECOME A BETTER YOU
Everyone wants something better for their lives — not just a better business but better relationships, moods, creative moments, experiences, anything. We all just want to be better. But despite the desire to evolve and change, sometimes we find ourselves stuck in a rut of habit or comfort, which is hard to break. If this sounds like you, I recommend reading “The Quantum Leap Strategy” by Price Pritchett. This book is very concise (37 pages) and helps you view yourself and your habits with real clarity and push yourself further than you could ever imagine. Price calls this push the “Quantum Leap Strategy.” The idea is to go beyond your regular performance, your daily comforts or routines, and achieve success using tools that already exist inside you – with half the effort.
The result is what Price calls “you²,” or the better version of you. This version of yourself already exists inside you, and “The Quantum Leap Strategy” will help you tap into the potential hidden under the ease of your routines.
Many of us struggle to start making these changes ourselves because we’re either scared or “too busy” to do anything differently. This book explicitly targets those hesitations and challenges you with chapters titled “Seek failure,” “Get
You see, the other day, while we were at our grandpa’s house, he gave us each some beans. They weren’t the baked kind — they were hard ones that make little tapping noises when you shake them together, which I think makes them “raw.” It didn’t take my sister and me long to figure out what we wanted to do with our newest prize, and as soon as we got home, we raced to the backyard. We decided to make a garden and plant the beans our grandpa gave us! I was in charge of the build, and Ella was in charge of the design. We both helped each other out and made a pretty good team, if I say so myself.
Hey, newsletter friends, it’s Gavin! While I usually have an update about how my guys and I are working hard to invent or build the coolest things we can think of, this month, my “guys” are actually one person: my sister, Ella.
We grabbed some pavers from around the yard and used them to create a border for our little garden. That way, everyone would know not to step in the dirt or run it over with a lawnmower. Then, once we had our site outlined, we started planting. We first had to do what my dad calls “tilling the land,” which basically meant mixing up the dirt. Ella and I mixed it as best we could with shovels and rakes before deciding where we would put our beans.
We made little holes and placed the beans from our grandpa inside before covering them with the soil and giving them some water to grow.
Ella and I are happy to report that we officially have beans growing in our garden! We can see the little green sprouts coming up from where we put the beans, so all our hard work building, designing, and planting our garden paid off.
Next, we plan to try growing some cucumbers because they’re our favorite snack, and home-grown snacks always taste the best!

uncomfortable,” or “Suspend disbelief.” You don’t need to get anything right the first time, but you just have to get out there and do it. In my experience, simply getting started is 90% of success. The reason I recommend this book to anyone who desires a positive change is that it emphasizes that success is already inside you, and you never have to change who you are or what you value. You simply need to look inside yourself and channel that potential into the right habits and rituals to make quantum leaps toward a better you. If you’re interested, you can find “The Quantum Leap Strategy” on Pritchett’s site at PritchettYou2.com/ Product/The-Quantum-Leap-Strategy . I hope this book helps you capitalize on the potential inside you and achieve successes that you once believed were out of reach.
BLG Environmental installed a circular driveway, palms, sprinklers, and lighting for my home. We looked at the other firms that did not cover all the bases and details or passed the buck to me to manage. Having some
knowledge in landscaping and general building, my wife and I were very impressed with Robert’s firm, his attention to detail, and the willingness to make sure the job was finished and complete. The landscaping, including large palms, lighting stonework, and sprinklers, were all well symphonized to completion with minimal effort and aggravation to us. Lastly, BLG is at the top A+; they are the real deal. Going somewhere else for your residential landscape would be a mistake.” – Steve D.

Plenty of options are available if you’re looking for a truly unique experience this winter. Here are three winter activities that will leave you with long-lasting memories. Snowmobile Tours in Alaska Alaska is one of America’s hidden gems, even though it’s the biggest U.S. state. If you’re looking for unique winter experiences, you’ll want to visit Alaska.
