December 2022 Anchorlines

Fleet Captain/Sail After delays due to issues with the Department of Florida Environmental and hurricane Ian, we anticipate resuming High School Sailing in December. We suffered a fair amount of damage due to the hurricane and lost three boats. Fortunately, we had prepared well prior to the storm or the damage could have been much worse. Rocky, Lee, our high school students along with the crew from “Flying Dutchman” and I moved everything off the beach and secured all other equipment. I want to give a big thanks to “Flying Dutchman” crew members who selflessly just showed up at the sailing site and asked how they could help! We could not have done all we did without their help!

We anticipate six returning sailors in December along with five new sailors. Sadly, with the devastation suffered at Edison Sailing Center in Fort Meyers, with whom we normally conduct regattas, we will not have any regattas this season. However, we will continue Saturday instruction and local sailing for our students. And of course, we anticipate another banner year for our Summer program which will begin in June. The program has grown from 45 students three years ago to 140 students last year and we anticipate additional students for the 2023 program. Best Regards,

Dwyn von Bereghy Fleet Captain/Sail
