The European Union Directive 94/9/EC (ATEX) refers to all the equipment and systems intended for application in potentially explosive atmospheres. All sourcesof ignition are taken into consideration, such as hot surfaces, open flames and hot gases, mechanically generated sparks, electrical sparks, electrostatic dischargesand suchlike. The directive divides products into two groups: group I includesequipment intended for use in mines and under- ground works; group II comprises equipment intended for use in environments where explosive atmospheres mayoccur. Group II is divided into three more categories according to the degree of protection that the product must ensure in relation to the environment of use. SICOMAT blow guns are classified as follows:Group II, category 2G IIB T6 It is the final user’s responsibility to obtain the classification of the place where the blow guns will be installed, in accordance to its risk assessment.
