WT1B Identify and engage a wide range of stakeholders

Delivering adaptation needs to involve a diverse range of stakeholders – both internally across functions (note: internal engagement is detailed in the Organisational Culture and Resources capability), and externally including local authorities, communities, businesses and other public sector organisations. You should identify the stakeholders that could be impacted by climate change and your adaptation, and therefore should be considered in your adaptation work. Look beyond the ‘usual suspects’. Authentic engagement will allow for adjustment of your plans and an opportunity for you to influence others.

Further guidance:

• Identify existing groups, partnerships and forums that are/ could contribute to adaptation. Research roles, remits and membership and consider existing opportunities for collaborating on adaptation.

Groups to examine may include:

Local Resilience Forums

o

Regional climate adaptation initiatives

o

Supply chain initiatives

o

o Local or Combined Authority working groups

• Assess what groups your organisation is already part of. If relevant, contact your organisational representative to ask for feedback, insight and connections that you can follow up with or learn how to engage and interact with the group’s members.

• Consider how existing levers on NHS suppliers through carbon reduction plans and social

Intermediate Maturity Tasks WT2A Develop key external partnerships and opportunities

In the groups and networks you identified in Task WT1B , speak with people about on-going or future projects, shared priorities and potential alignment to lay the ground-work for collaboration. From this, identify key partnerships and opportunities and start to develop these. Be sure to continue sharing best practice and learn from each other successes and challenges.
