The Law Offices of Matthew Konecky - May 2022

MATT’S BOOK OF THE MONTH ‘The Storyteller’ by Dave Grohl Dave Grohl has become America’s favorite rock ‘n’ roll dad. For those who don’t know who he is, Dave Grohl was Nirvana’s drummer in 1991 — a band that helped change rock and pop culture with their major label debut Nevermind. When Nirvana’s lead singer, Kurt Cobain, committed while visiting his older cousin in Chicago and seeing his first concert at the Cubby Bear lounge. He also mentions learning to play drums on pillows while taking a lesson from a jazz legend. (Fun fact: Where Dave saw his first concert is directly across from Wrigley Field, where the Chicago Cubs play, a venue I have been to multiple times!) This book has inspiring and hilarious tales that I’m sure you’ll enjoy.

suicide in 1994, Dave was left with a void. Struggling with what to do, he created a demo tape where he played all instruments and sang every song. He simply dubbed this demo “Foo Fighters.” Dave’s tape made its circulation, caught fire, and prompted a major label debut. From there, Dave formed a new band called the Foo Fighters, and for the last 27 years they’ve been one of the top rock bands in the world. In his new book, “The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music,” Dave shares various stories of his life that helped form who he is. For example, he talks about his first time hearing punk music

The sense you get from reading this book is that Dave can’t sit still. While not playing with the Foo Fighters, he may be helping drumming on another band’s album or starting a supergroup with members of Led Zeppelin. Unfortunately, this type of restlessness got him into trouble in Australia and led him to have a coffee-induced “heart attack.” You don’t have to like modern music to appreciate the American spirit that Dave has. His down-to-earth sensibility and work ethic can be appreciated by everyone. His travels lead him to two White House visits and multiple tours around the world.

“The Storyteller: Tales of Life and Music” is a quick, fascinating read, and I enjoyed every page in this book. I highly suggest you read this book if you haven’t already.
