Availability of resources with knowledge both in finance and technical In the space industry, outdated training methods, originally designed during a less competitive era with lengthy space mission development, hinder adaptability. A major challenge is the lack of a diverse, skilled workforce, impacting research, innovation, and production. Many local engineers seek opportunities abroad, causing a gap between graduate expectations and local job availability, leading to unemployment. Addressing these issues is vital for the space industry’s competitiveness and sustainability in a changing global context. Resources to adopt and develop technologies The proposed training curriculum in universities is designed to provide a comprehensive and rigorous educational experience for aspiring engineers, facilitating their collaboration with the space manufacturers. This curriculum aims to bring together individuals from diverse work disciplines, fostering an environment conducive to effective teamwork and knowledge exchange. The academic community is responsible for cultivating and enhancing the human capital capacities necessary to provide experience, knowledge, and skills that will contribute to the long- term viability of national space endeavours.
New technology application in financing
Availability of technology solutions in maintaining existing infrastructure Space missions are known for their intricate technological demands, requiring cutting-edge equipment. Yet, developing and maintaining this tech is resource- intensive, posing barriers in knowledge and funding. Numerous technical challenges range from propulsion to life support systems. Scarce resources hamper research, development, and commercialisation efforts. Collaboration between research institutions and industry stakeholders remains limited. Space technology is an intricate and costly undertaking, especially so within this period characterised by rapid technological advancements and dynamic space economics. The establishment of a comprehensive plan for the advancement of space technology is of paramount importance, necessitating the cultivation of foresight. Moreover, it is imperative for the government to allocate substantial investments towards the growth of this sector. To enhance our upstream capabilities, it is crucial to sustain ongoing operations, particularly downstream activities. Establishing an industry database and a formal register can provide policymakers, investors, and foreign partners with a reliable reference, facilitating industry growth and advancement. Impact of technological development on current regulation The swift progress in space technology has outpaced legal frameworks, posing a potential threat to innovation. In Malaysia, technology transfer must align with the nation’s development levels, moving beyond industrial and technical goals to address broader developmental priorities. Technology application to assist talent development Space technology is being used for talent development, but this technology isn’t being widely adopted due to two primary reasons: a shortage of individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge, and the substantial upfront costs involved in updating or acquiring the technology. This may result in a gap between the potential benefits of space technology and its actual use in the context of talent development.
