The phenomenon of technology adoption refers to the process through which individuals or organisations integrate new technological innovations into their existing systems or practices. The implementation of space technology in Malaysia has resulted in breakthroughs across all areas. The use of remote sensing satellites, such as RazakSAT and the forthcoming MEASAT satellites, has significantly enhanced Earth observation capabilities, particularly in the fields of agriculture, forestry, disaster management, and urban planning. These satellites provide high-resolution imaging, which assists in making well- informed decisions and managing resources effectively. The use of telecommunication satellites, such as the MEASAT satellites, has had a profound impact on Malaysia’s connection, facilitating the provision of broadband services, television broadcasting, and data transfer. The aforementioned developments serve to improve the existing communication infrastructure and stimulate economic development.
The achievement known as “Malaysia Into Space” represents a noteworthy milestone in Malaysia’s progression within the realm of space exploration. In 2007, a programme was undertaken in partnership with foreign partners with the objective of developing the nation’s capacity to engage in space exploration. This endeavour included the dispatch of Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor, the nation’s first astronaut, to the International Space Station (ISS). This historic feat not only signified Malaysia’s debut in space exploration but also motivated a generation of young Malaysians to seek professions in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). In summary, Malaysia’s endeavour in the field of space technology applications has resulted in significant and profound transformations. The nation’s use of space exploration and satellite technology has had a profound impact on economic development, scientific discovery, and technological progress. The foray of Malaysia into space stands as a compelling illustration of the potential of space technology to have a constructive influence on several aspects of a nation’s development.
