INTRODUCTION TO SPACE EXPLORATION TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW Space, the final frontier, has captured human imagination for centuries. The scope of space exploration is vast and multifaceted: 1. Scientific Exploration Space telescopes like the Hubble and James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) have revealed stunning images of distant galaxies, expanding our understanding of the universe’s origins and evolution. 2. Human Spaceflight This encompasses the endeavour to send humans to space, the moon, and beyond. Previous initiatives in this area have seen a series of human spaceflight programmes designed to understand how a spacecraft could rendezvous and dock with another vehicle in Earth’s orbit; efforts to perfect re-entry landing methods; and deep-dives to further understand the effects of longer spaceflights on astronauts. 3. Satellite Technology Satellites facilitate global communication, earth observation, climate monitoring, positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) as well as technology and scientific research. Exploring neighbouring planets and other celestial bodies, unlocking its geological history and potential for life, have driven the focus of numerous space projects. 5. Astronomy This is the study of space to uncover the fundamental questions about the nature and the birth and death of stars and galaxies. 4. Planetary Exploration
