Definitions
What funny definitions we give to: grace. “Unmerited favor.” “God acting in our lives beyond what we can do for our - selves.”
Grace is God’s continuing creation in our lives. Grace is God’s love acting in our lives. (Sometimes we say one, sometimes the other.)
(Of course we don’t deserve it. Of course we can’t do it for ourselves. What distinction can we make? What do we deserve? What can we do for ourselves?)
Grace: God created the world as an environment in which we can come to know and love God. Grace: God created us on the threshold between created be - ings and creating beings. We can participate with God in our continuing creation. Grace: God will act in our lives to express his love. Grace: God will act in our lives to continue her act of cre - ation in and through us.
God acts in the world and in our lives to continue his cre - ation. We can call this grace.
God acts in, through, by many different features of the world. We can call these: means of grace.
