Prayer: the queen of the graces. Of all the many different means of grace God creates in our world and uses in our lives, it seems that God works through prayer more than through any other means of grace. A life of grace necessarily is a life of prayer. We will examine prayer more closely in section 3.1. For now let’s focus on these glimpses of Jesus in prayer, providing a model for the life of grace:
But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. Luke 5: 16
Often. The Gospel writers probably didn’t record every observed instance when Jesus went off to pray. We do have a representative sample describing Jesus’ pat - tern of prayer:
He prayed early in the moring. Mark 1: 35 He prayed late into the night. Luke 6: 12 He prayed alone. Mark 6: 46 He prayed with his disciples.
Luke 9: 18 & 22: 39-46
He prayed often.
Luke 5: 16
Prayer connects us to God in ways that nothing else does. Time in prayer demonstrates and builds up our love of God. In prayer we seek and find God - who is all good; from whom - in love - all good comes to us.
