God creates the world so that it would produce all kinds of life plants and living creatures in the water and birds and animals so that they would be fruitful and increase in number and fill the earth and continue to re - produce (seed bearing plants animals that would reproduce “according to their kind”). Immediately following this God created people male and female in God’s image. What image? What image of God immediately precedes and follows this statement: “make man in our image” ? Precedes: filling the world with life that reproduces. Follows: creating humans to take care of this world full of life. God’s image, then, includes: creating life and caring for life. People were created to take care of life.
