MAY 2018

‘’Greetings from Your Neighborhood Physiotherapist! As you are at least nowaware, the 2018 Guardians Alive Run/Walk Event was a satisfying success last weekend. Apart from the tremendous attendance and support, a very defining aspect of this success was observing and assisting our client Mr. Joseph Ebanks, who is physically challenged due to a 2015 stroke. It was a proud moment witnessing him doing well in his walk with the Governor and his water workout, with the aid of the Mobi-Chair TM and Mobi-Mat TM . Even though I have only been involved in the most recent phase of his rehab for just under a year, I can attest to his consistently high level of motivation to put out his best effort. I have also appreciated the improvements in physical function that he has attained in the past couple of months with physiotherapy. We look forward to achieving more with Mr. Joseph ‘Bronson’ ‘Bronnie’ ‘Champion’ Ebanks. Actually, he is a perfect example of what a dependent, disabled or elderly individual can achieve, with the right mindset, the right environment, and the right people. Also, it was brought to our attention that more events should be planned involving the sometimes forgotten but special cohorts of our society.

With that said, I would like to acknowledge Mrs. Adonza Harrison and her team for hosting this successful event which not only challenges our fitness or athleticism but upholds community spirit and team effort. I would also like to thank all the sponsors, volunteers and participants for their contribution. We look forward to next year!’’ – Resean Reece, R.P.T.

Even headaches located in the forehead or behind the eyes are often referred pains stemming from problem areas in the neck and base of the skull. The joints connecting the top three vertebral levels of the neck handle almost 50% of the total motion of the entire neck. This means they absorb a lot of repetitive strain. “ With God’s help, Stroke victimMr. Joseph Bronson Ebanks made history on Saturday, April 7, 2018, when Physiotherapist Mr. Resean Reece and a colleague, assisted Bronson into the water at Seven Mile Public Beach. Using the Mobi-mat and the specialized wheelchair, Bronson benefited from aquatic therapy like many of the other elderly persons who were at the Guardians Alive event. Bronson’s family is also quite pleased to learn that the Mobi-mat will soon be available on a regular basis. It will be of tremendous benefit to Bronson and other elderly and disabled persons, who find it difficult to walk on the sandy beaches. Bronson and his family extend their sincere thanks to Mr. Reece and the team at the Physiotherapy Center for their care and attention over the past nine (9) months. 1. Spend your time outdoors wisely. Jog in the evening instead of the morning when pollen counts are higher. Before heading outdoors, check your local pollen counts online, and on days when pollen counts are high, head to the gym instead. 2. Get natural relief. Some herbal remedies may help stave off allergy symptoms. More research is needed, but an extract from a shrub called butterbur shows promise. Biminne, a Chinese herbal formula with ingredients like ginkgo biloba and Chinese skullcap, may also help. One study found that people who took biminne five times a day for 12 weeks still felt the benefits a year later. 3. Keep pollen out of your home. Simple changes make a difference. Shut all windows to keep out pollen. Use an air conditioner to cool your home instead of a fan, which draws in air from outside. Take off your shoes at the door and ask guests to do the same to keep allergens outside. Also, bathe pets that go outside more frequently during allergy season.

4. Wear a mask for outdoor chores. Wearing a pollen mask while doing yard work or tending your garden can minimize your exposure to pollen particles. 5. Try a salt water rinse. A saline nasal rinse can help clear allergens from your nasal membranes and gargling with salt water can reduce throat irritation.
