Even though Haitian Creole is the fifth most common native language of multilingual learners, few teachers have access to high-quality books about Haitian American culture. So we partnered with Jamie Hector, Haitian American actor and storyteller , to curate a collection of some of the best children’s books on Haitian culture and history to add to your classroom libraries!

meet the mentor
Jamie Hector is a Brooklyn-born actor who studied at the Lee Strasberg Theatre & Film Institute. He is best known for his role as Marlo Stanfield on the critically acclaimed HBO series The Wire. Some of Hector's more recent work include Bosch , Queen of the South , and We Own
This City . However, one of his favorite roles is as the founder of Moving Mountains Inc., a nonprofit organization that gives inner- urban youth the opportunity to study the arts free of charge. He has also authored several children’s books with Scholastic, which will be included in the collection.
