THE endocannabinoid system

cannabis & the body AN INTRODUCTION TO THE ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM To understand how our carefully crafted cannabis works with the body, let’s look at the endocannabinoid system (ECS). What is the ECS? This network in the body helps us to maintain balance, or homeostasis. The ECS affects our sleep, memory, learning, immunity, digestion, inflammatory responses, and more. When the body senses stress, it creates and sends endocannabinoids to trigger a response and bring the body back to homeostasis. Receptors for the ECS aren’t just found in the brain, they can be found across the body. How does cannabis influence the ECS and its functions? Phytocannabinoids found in cannabis, like THC and CBD, act in a similar way to endocannabinoids in the body. This means cannabis can affect the same things the ECS manages: sleep, memory, digestion (see: munchies), inflammation, and more.
