“Do you believe God made the universe?” Again he said, “Yes.” Then I said, “ Do you realize that our whole earth is like a tiny speck of dust in this vast universe? “I said, “ Our solar system (our sun and planets) are part of the Milky Way Galaxy, which is made up of between 200-400 billion stars. Driving at 55 miles per hour, it would take us 52 million years (4 1/3 light years) just to drive to the closest star to earth (if you don’t count our sun as a star). “Do you know that i f our Milky Way Galaxy was reduced to the size of North America (Canada, the United States, and Mexico), by comparison, our sun and all the planets that orbit our sun, would fit inside a coffee cup? —That’s how small we are ! And, our Milky Way Galaxy is just one of billions of other galaxies, each made up of billions of stars. Astronomers guesstimate that our Milky Way Galaxy is only one-trillionth of the known universe .” “ The biggest star we can see with the naked eye is named Betelge use (pronounced “Beetle Juice ” ). It is in the constellation Orion. If our earth were the size of a golf ball, our sun, by comparison, would be a ball 15 feet tall. Betelgeuse would be a ball two miles high! If there were a tunnel through the middle of that star, driving at 55 mph, it would take us 1,600 years just to drive through the tunnel.
