There was a woman who received a phone call in the middle of the night from the emergency room of a hospital, stating that her dad was actively dying, and that if she wanted to see her dad alive, she needed to come now. She hastily threw on some clothes, and frantically began driving the 100 miles to where her father was hospitalized. As she was speeding through one small town in the wee hours of the morning, she looked in her rear view mirror, and saw the local sheriff chasing her with his flashers on. Because she was going so fast, the officer didn’t give her a ticket, but he arrested her right there on the spot. The next morning she had to appear before the old county judge. As the judge was looking over the officer’s report, he said, “Lady, what were you thinking? Do you realize you were going almost 50 miles above the speed limit! Your fine is either $300 or three days in jail.” The woman said, “O, no your honor! Y ou don’t understand. My father is dying and I can’t possibly spend three days in jail. And, I’m so sorry , but I left in such a hurry that I forgot my purse on the kitchen counter, and I have no money! ”
