ALTECNIC COUNTRY MANAGER FOR ROI & NI CHRIS REILLY REVIEWS PRACTICAL, LONG-TERM WAYS TO REDUCE HEATING BILLS AND IMPROVE EFFICIENCY WITHOUT MAJOR SYSTEM OVERHAULS…

How can homeowners reduce energy costs with TRVs?
Over the past few years, UK households have faced a continued rise in the cost of living, with energy prices remaining volatile despite recent government support measures. While sharp spikes have eased, gas and electricity costs are still significantly higher than before the energy crisis. As a result, many homeowners are looking for practical, long-term ways to reduce their heating bills and improve efficiency without major system overhauls. With this in mind, how can homeowners attempt to keep their energy costs down? INNOVATION IS KEY There are a number of innovative solutions that homeowners can explore to help them to reduce energy costs. One simple yet highly-effective solution is the installation of thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs), an affordable upgrade that can deliver noticeable savings and greater comfort throughout the home. An Ecofys-Institute study revealed that replacing a manual radiator valve with a TRV can achieve energy efficiency improvements as high as 13-19%. Thus, highlighting how, through the installation of a TRV, a radiator can perform better at a lower cost of energy.
Furthermore, if homeowners take into account the average cost of a TRV, it can be estimated that it would take just two years for the investment to essentially begin generating rewards. This compares favourably in comparison to other commonly used energy-saving systems, such as hydraulic balancing, which entail a much longer payback period. HOW DO THERMOSTATIC RADIATOR VALVES WORK? TRVs are typically used to regulate the flow to radiators in central heating systems. A thermal regulating element automatically controls the opening of the valve to keep the ambient temperature of the room constant at the set value. This prevents temperature fluctuations in the room and achieves considerable energy savings. MAKING INFORMED DECISIONS WITH THE ECOCAL® TRV The Ecocal® TRV range is rated ‘I’ under Thermostatic Efficiency Labelling and fulfils minimum requirements in line with EN 215 (influence of water temperature, hysteresis, response time and influence of differential pressure). This helps to
TRVs such as Altecnic’s Ecocal® range offer an affordable upgrade.
reassure consumers that by installing an Ecocal® TRV, they are making their heating system more efficient than if they installed a standard radiator valve. Available in 15mm, 10mm and 8mm versions, these TRVs have been manufactured for both retrofit and new installations and designed with a serrated sliding tailpiece to prevent alterations to pipe work during installation. The models have a reversible body for either vertical or horizontal fit and are suitable for on flow or return pipework, providing the installer with ultimate flexibility. Thanks to their positive off position, they even allow for radiators to be removed without needing to be drained. And, for added peace of mind, the entire Ecocal® TRV range comes with a five-year warranty, ensuring long-term reliability and performance. So, the Ecocal® range of TRVs provides energy saving for the consumer and makes installation and maintenance easier!
