WINNERS REVEALED
L-R: Martin Hogan and Philip Hewitt, Calor (sponsor).
For more than half a century, Martin Hogan has been a quiet force keeping Ireland’s boilers and burners burning. Beginning as a service technician with Precision Heating in 1972, he quickly became the country’s most trusted voice on oil- and gas-fired appliances. What sets this year’s Lifetime Achievement recipient apart is not only his technical mastery but his legendary accessibility. Installers will tell you of calls answered on Christmas morning, or even during his son’s wedding ceremony – because someone, somewhere needed help diagnosing a burner fault. That culture of ‘phone-first’ support travelled with him when he left Precision and turned to teaching. In 2011, he founded his own training business. From a single classroom, he built Ireland’s first independent, brand-neutral centre offering RGII gas, OFTEC oil and manufacturer courses for Viessmann, Worcester Bosch and others. Over 2,700 plumbers and heating engineers from every county earned new certification or up skilled under this gentleman’s eye. His pass rate hovered near 98%, a number fuelled by one-to-one evening sessions for anyone struggling with maths, literacy or language. LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD MARTIN HOGAN KINDLY SPONSORED BY: CALOR
Martin Hogan.
Even retirement in 2024 has not slowed him; at 76, he still answers daily calls from former students facing tricky installations. A host of testimonials repeat the same advice for anyone stuck on a boiler installation or repair: give Martin Hogan a call and he will help you out. While Martin’s impact is measurable in the thousands of safer, more efficient heating systems, his greatest legacy is an intangible nationwide culture of professionalism, generosity and pride among installers. For unwavering service, pioneering vision and a half century of elevating our trade, Martin Hogan is a deserving candidate for this Lifetime Achievement recognition. “While Martin’s impact is measurable in the thousands of safer, more efficient heating systems, his greatest legacy is an intangible nationwide culture of professionalism, generosity and pride among installers.”
