A benchmark in sustainable school design, Scoil Thomais uses a hybrid heating system combining gas and air-to-water heating units to deliver a flexible, resilient and energy-efficient solution. Judges were impressed with MR Mechanical Services’ innovation in both approach and outcome, with the contractor working closely with suppliers and taking advantage of specialist training to offer extended warranties. Works included a plant room fit out with full BMS controls, installation of 150-plus low-temperature replacement radiators and the provision of eight new classroom kitchenettes. Coordinating multiple system upgrades while the school remained in live operation, the project was completed to a high standard of performance and compliance.
Careful planning and thoughtful design were central to Phoenix Mechanical’s installation of advanced integrated systems across a new 272-bedroom hotel. Judges recognised the project’s outstanding coordination, efficiency and sustainability, achieved within an impressively short timeframe. Using air-source heat pumps and individual heat recovery units, the system will deliver estimated annual savings of €25,000. Phoenix Mechanical worked closely with Waterman Moylan Engineering Consultants on the design and successfully completed the install and handover of all mechanical services. The hotel features efficient water management systems including low-flow fixtures, and an HVAC system serving guest rooms, public areas and back-office spaces with over 300 indoor AC units.
