It is damning many souls. The Christian worker must not be ignorant, nor even careless, concerning God’s tru th on this m a tte r; bu t he must be well fortified and brave and tru e. The Word is plain and contains no h in t of th is fearful delusion. The unregener ated are not children of God, bu t are (1) Children of the devil (Jn. 8: 44; 1 Jn . 3 :10 ; Acts 1 3 :10 ). The devil is a fath e r and has a large family. (2 ) Children of th e wicked one (Mt. 13 :38 ). 2. O ther Scripture statem ents are: (1 ) Children of disobedience (Eph. 2:2^; 5 :6 ). (2) Children of w rath (Eph. 2 :3 ). (3) Children of hell (Mt. 23 :15 ). (4 ) Children of transgression (Isa. 57 :4 ). (5 ) Children of wickedness (2 Sam. 7 :1 0 ). (6 ) Lying children (Isa. 30 :9 ). (7) Children th a t will not h ear the law of the Lord (Isa. 30(:9 ). (8) Children of pride (Job 41 :34 ). (9) Children th a t are corrupters (Isa. 1 :4 ). (10) Children of th is world (Lk. 16 :8 ). (11) Cursed children (2 Pet. 2 :1 4 ). 3. The only way to become a child of God and a member of His family (Eph. 3:14, 15) is to be born of God, or born again (Jn . 1:12, 13; 3:3, 5, 7; Gal. 3 :26 ; 1 Pet. 1,:23). There are two fathers, two families, and two births.— H. S. Miller. a t e a t e
the poet. He then w rites si^ch melody and harmony as will match th e poem perfectly. The theme of the poem may suggest whether it is best for a solo, chorus piece, qu artette, duet, trio, or congregational song. Sometimes th e words and music are w ritten simul taneously by th e same person. In all events, the glory of God and our Saviour is th e supreme effort. I once heard th a t a well known song w riter received his “ ideas” as to melo dies for his Gospel songs by attending th e picture shows and listening to th e latest “ h its” of the season. T h at is no t spiritual inspiration. A person talen ted with the g ift of composition, who is consecrated to God, w illfin d in his soul a store-house of melodies for spiritually inspired poems th a t he will never be able to exhaust. Safe Gospel Songs This article would not he complete unless I made clear th a t th ere are many consecrated w riters both of words and music who are earnestly striving to glorify God through th e ir songs. I am personally in touch w ith many and am the happy possessor of some of th eir songs. These are modern Gospel songs of the rig h t type, for they carry mes sages th a t are personal and positive, as well as tru e to God’s Word. The music is not cheap, but good, such as will appeal to educated musicians. The w riter of th is article firmly believes th a t th e v ery 'b est class of music should be used in th e clothing of a Gospel song poem, and his advice to those who w rite is th a t they do not publish th eir music too hurriedly. Even afte r it is w ritten it is well to allow some other musician who is deeply interested in th a t kind of work to criticise it. So will modern Gospel songs be kept free from th e ta in t of worldliness. (M r.
