THE K I N G ’ S B U S I N E S S Sealing Likewise, every believer is now seal ed w ith the Spirit. The immediate value of this accomplishment seems to be more for the sake of God, than for th e sake of the believer. This particu lar m inistry is mentioned only th ree times in th e New Testam ent; b u t it is of vital import: “Who h ath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our h e a rts” (2 Cor. 1:22>; “Having also believed, ye were sealed w ith the Holy Spirit of prom ise” (Bph. 1:13, R. V .); “And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption” (Eph. '4 :30 ). It is also said of Christ th a t He was sealed of the F ath e r (John 6:27. Cf. Isa. 42: 1 ). The sealing of the believer with th e Spirit is “unto th e day of redemp tion .” It is th e very presence of the Spirit in the heart. He is the Seal. The thing accomplished by His sealing is so vital and enduring th a t it precludes the possibility of in terrup tion or deflection.
1249 Thus, as for reasons given above, the eternal purposes of God in grace are to be received w ithout distrust, because of th e sealing w ith th e Spirit. THAT LITTLE WORD “NOT” The word “Not” seems to be quite a knot to th e philosophers of today. What to do w ith the word “ no t” in “Thou sh alt n o t commit adu ltery ” is puzzling indeed. Around th a t word th e 'sa n ctity of th e home is built. I t is an armed guard a t every man’s door. It is a Divine fence built around Love. It is the hedge th a t confines pu rity to th e wedded life. Where this “ n o t” is dis regarded, faces are scorched with, lust; h earts are dark w ith murder, lives are em bittered by hatred, and every life is signed by the one word “Slave.” “Thou sh alt no t covet.” “Not” is th e signal light of an ownership. John the Baptist left th e “ no t” in th e commandments— why not you?— Sel.
