th a t he was an au tho rity on the soul; or because Mr. Huxley was a most lucid teacher of n atu ral science th a t he had any rig h t to say the last word on m ir acles. Even in religion one must he scientific and depend not upon am ateurs bu t upon experts. “ In the high affairs of faith, are we not more likely to ar rive a t the tru th by listening to the saints, th a n by listening to persons whose adm irable studies have been among th e lower anim als?” John W at son says th ere are only two provinces of absolutely sure knowledge— one is pure mathem atics and th e other is the experience of the soul. “ If P aul had a righ t to say, ‘I,’ and we allow him to be a conscious being, then he had a rig h t to say ‘I know.’ And if it be granted th a t he could know anything, he had perfect rig h t to finish his sen tence, and say, ‘I know whom I have believed,’ and we can do no b etter than to accept th e certainty of such experi ence.” F a ith is th e center of the financial world. From th e man who sends his goods for money he has not seen to the man who accepts the la st dictum of science, we move in this world by faith. Unbelief blocks the wheels of all prog ress. Only faith can rig h t a ruined world. Only faith can make men lay down th eir arm s and pick up the ax and th e shovel, and faith finds its highest exemplification in the m atters of the soul. > WORKERS W ITH HIM II Cor. 6^1 L ittle is much when God is in it; Man’s busiest day’s not worth God’s m inute, Much is little everywhere, If God th e labor do not share; So work w ith God and nothing’s lost, Who works w ith H im does best and most: Work on! Work on! . -—A. A. Rees.
