The bandits took th eir boxes and were stripping off even th è clothing they were wearing when a young man came forward and said to th e b an d its:— “You should not take th e goods of these men, they are preachers of a tru e doctrine, they give books to our people w ithout charging them for them , they ju st go about do ing good; I beg of you do not rob them. This is not a m erchant caravan, it is simply a p arty of preachers. I have heard them preach and have received copies of th e ir books.” The bandits simply told the young man to mind hi3 own business and they continued th eir pillaging. But th e young man in his eagerness rushed off to th e “E lder B ro ther” as th e robber chief is called. Very quickly a fine looking, business like man of about thirty-five came out and sa id :— W hat are you fellows about? These men are preachers, they have only religious books and th eir personal effects; they give th e ir books away to those who w ant them ; they are not out making money bu t doing good. R etu rn to them a t once everything th a t you have taken from them ; any man who holds back anything will be dealt w ith summ arily.” W ithout any dis cussion or delay every garm ent and o ther article was retu rn ed w ith apolo gies for the inconvenience caused by tfye m istake, and they went on th e ir way rejoicing and praising God “Who alone doeth wondrous th ing s,” At Hsia-Tseh, th e place ju st left when the above experiences were encounter ed, the Holy S pirit did a most blessed work.
