story of th e conversion of General Feng, the “Chinese Christian F ig h ter,” was told
in “The L iterary Digest” of August 12, quoting in p art “The Christian Advo cate” and “The Sunday School Times.” Mary Morrill was an American m is sionary who in 1900 was beheaded by th e Boxers; and Feng, a t th a t tim e a young Chinese cadet, was one of the witnesses. The impression must ■have been sim ilar to th a t which doubtless was made upon Saul when th e la tte r witnessed th e martyrdom of Stephen. “Feng heard th e woman m issionary plead for the lives of th e m issionaries and of th e Chinese Christians. When th a t plea was of no avail, he heard her beg th a t they m ight slay her and spare
